Withholding wages

Without any notification to me and without allowing me any time to correct a simple problem, payroll withheld a day of wages. I knew nothing about it until I checked my pay stub for the pay period. Shouldn't I have been told about this action before the deduction was taken and allowed at least some to correct it?
