withholding of wages

I am to get paid weekly. I was out sick for 5 days and my company put me on a medical leave of absence without telling me.I returned to work and found out that my direct deposit was stopped and would not get paid until I cleared from our first aid. After one month I got cleared and recieved 2 checks for the four weeks I did not collect my wage, even though I was working. Are they required to pay penalities?

Yes, you can complaint to the labor commisioner.
