Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I work for a City in California and in our MOU it reads that employees may cash out up to 80-hours of vacation pay per year. I submitted the request, but the city manager will not approve it because he wants to freeze these payments for the next year in order to help balance the budget. Do I have any recourse?

If the city is violating the terms of the MOU, your recourse is to initiate a grievance pursuant to the terms of the MOU, which may lead to arbitration. Your first step is to contact your union representative to discuss whether the MOU has, indeed, been violated. If you are not satisfied with the answer you receive, contact an employment law attorney who represents public employees, to determine if you have a grievable claim.
