Legal Question in Employment Law in California

i work as an exotic dancer/independant contractor and our smoking room was shut down so now we have to go outside. The problem is that at first we were going outside all the time and the manager got tired of taking us out plus hes the only one working so he was away from the front and unable to watch lap dances. So the management set up times to take us out. Now they wont take us out at all and get angry when we want to go out. they have also said we should help clean up the smoking room, but they were nasty when they said it. Our contract sais we are not allowed to go outside alone ever, not even to walk to our cars, and only staff can walk us out. So what do we do?

You have no legal right to smoke at work. Your non-smoking customers would probably appreciate it if you quit smoking anyway.
