Legal Question in Employment Law in California
I work at a group home for developmentally delayed children. It is a small home usually with 6 boys. I work the night shift. I'm scheduled to work 2a.m.-8a.m. and then had to be back at 9:30a.m. -3:30p.m. for training (which my get out early) and must be back at 9p.m.-8a.m. for work and then the training again the next day 9:30a.m.-3:30p.m. and back to my normal work 9p.m.-8a.m. So between 2a.m. Thursday, and 8a.m. Sunday I work 51 hours. Because the training is though another company (it is required that I attend by my employer) she says that she doesn't have to pay me over time. Is that correct? I belive that I should get paid overtime because I am working 15hrs one day and 17hrs the next.

Not only are you entitled to overtime, if this is required as a part of your job, it appears you may also be entitled to split-shit premiums, as well.
