Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Hello,
I work for a rather large pizza company. I was recently mugged and risked my life to defend $15.00 of the companies money. I received severe blows to the head and had to be hospitalized. The Sheriff's department warned me that the area I was mugged at is a "red zone" which means that I was not even legally supposed to delivery to the area due to it's extremely high crime rate. After the incident I was given no paid leave days although they told me that I would be compensated for 9 hours worth of pay since this was how much I would have made if I had not been mugged. I did not receive 9 hours worth of pay for three weeks and finally asked the manager when I should expect my compensation. He told me to call a woman of whom works in corporate and she informed me that since I had not taken 14 days off after the incident they would not pay me. I do not think this is reasonable and am in real need of some expert advise. Thank you - Delivery Driver

You have a valid worker's compensation claim both for your physical injuries but more importantly for your work-related distress and anxiety caused by the violent crime. You will be entitled to medical treatment, benefits for temporary disability, a settlement for permanent disability and perhaps job displacement benefits.
