Legal Question in Employment Law in California
My work is requiring me to work off site at an event they are doing on a Saturday night. They said since they lowered my hours for me to attend school, I have no choice but to work the event without pay. Is this legal or do I loose my freedoms outside of work because the organization was flexible with my hours?

Employers can require employees to work, as is deemed necessary for the employer's business. However, they must pay the employee for all work performed. If they require you to work an event and, assuming you are a non-exempt (hourly) employee, they must pay you for the time spent working. Make sure you keep track of the hours you worked.
