Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I work for a school district in California and I travel to two different school sites every day. 4 hours at one site and then I leave for lunch at noon for an hour and then travel to the next school after lunch. My boss has been getting mad because I am getting to the afternoon school at about 1:30 (the time it takes me to travel to that site from where I usually have lunch) but in order for me to be there by 1p.m. I would have to cut my lunch hour short and spend the second half of it driving to that site. If i do this it would only leave me 30 minutes to eat when I'm supposed to get an hour. Is this legal? Shouldn't I get the full hour and then be allowed to start making my way to the next school after lunch. I also use my own car to travel to each school everyday and don't get any sort of compensation for gas or milage or anything just my regular pay. Is this legal as well?

California law only requires employers to provide 30 minutes uninterrupted meal breaks, not one hour. However, your union contract may have negotiated for a full hour meal break. If so, this would be a matter to take up with your union representative.
