Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I work through a temp agency at a car auction and the temp agency owner also owns a church. Does that give him legal grounds to file 1099 and make us come to church in order to get work?

More facts are needed regarding your duties to establish if you are an employee or indep. contractor. It is unlawful to discriminate against an employee because of his/her religious beliefs or lack thereof and requiring one to attend church is unlawful harassment based on religion.
