Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I worked for a bank and was left go do to a large cash difference in July 31, 2009. I was questioned on the last day and contacted to go back and answer more questions on 9-3-09. I have offered them to see all of my financial to search my house, but they haven't ask for it. This last interview they made it as I took the money and since they can't find anything they are taking the next step and reported to the police and that I might have to take a lie detector test. I don't have a problem with either one of the steps, but from a legal point, should I seek an attorney that I really can't afford? I was placed an a leave on same day as the cash difference occur having no time to research the outage myself and was dismissed five days later.

You should answer no more questions. You cannot be forced to take a lie detector test and should not take one. You definitely should not talk to the police without an attorney present.
