I worked one day for a real estate company doing data entry. i hated the job and quit after one full 8 hour day. they emailed me and said that they will not pay me for the day because it was training. they never said anything about training. i did data entry all day with no supervision. am i entitled to my $10 per hour for the eight hours?

Yes. If they refuse to pay, you may complain to the EDD, California Dept. of Labor, and they could press the issue. If that doesn't work, you could file a small claims lawsuit -- but it probably wouldn't be cost-effective to do so.
