Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I worked in a major brand hotel as an exec. admin assist. they let me go 2 weeks ago stating they are reducing staff aka the corporate company wants to save money. Yet today, I see they posted several open positions in various departments. My question: is this legal? Or rather, shouldn't the hotel offer me a chance to move to another department rather than letting me go? Is there somewhere or someplace I can file a complaint? Is there something I can do legally???

Unless you are a member of a collective bargaining unit, you probably don't have any recourse. Most employment in CA is at will, which means you can quit at any time, or be terminated at any time for no reason or any reason, except for illegal reasons such as discrimination or whistleblowing. It sounds like the company made up an excuse to terminate your employment. If you think there's discrimination, then speak with an attorney. If not, you might apply for another department, or -- I know it's hard to swallow -- move on to another company that appreciates experienced employees.
