Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Workforce reduction & Posting of job

I was recently laid off and was told it was not performance related, but rather a need for the company to reduce costs. Less than one month later, I see my exact job posted on the company website as an open position they are looking to fill. I've received nothing but positive reviews and positive feedback -- is it legal for the company to rehire for my position without giving me the opportunity? Thanks.

It is legal unless it was done in violation of contract or for an illegal purpose.
