Legal Question in Employment Law in California

While working on a realtors house doin yard work, was asked by him if I wanted to do a small renovaton on another property of his, i said yes. As I was leaving he came to me with a contract and had me signed it. Due to the fact that I had been under the 90degreesun for 8 hrs, exhausted all in my mind was home, and he late for a metting(walking back and forth in a way rushng me) I skim threw reading it and signed it. As a result did not notice I was label as an independent contractor and a contract protecting\benefiting him. I fail to meet a deadline and so we both agree to continue on the project until I finish. After a few attemps to collect some money for work completed so far, show up to work one day and the doorlocks had been change and he said to me that i was taking to long to complete and was going to hire someone else to finish. 95% of the project was completed by me. in addition, i also worked 3 days at another house of his and was schedule for more once I completed the project. I was then told to send an invoice of my work so he can show his boss the real owner all of these properties i worked on and the one writing the check. So i send an invoice and was denied any payment.

-No money was ever givin to me.

-Was told what and how to do it since i had lttle knowledge in this field

-had specific time for me to start and what was to be done that day.

Is the contract void/uninforcable since im unlicense ?

Should I/Could I filed a claim for wages claming I was his employee?

Isit illegal to threaten him in a demand letter that I will let real estate websites and other sources know of him taking advantage of persons who dont know the law like he does?

What should i do to get paid

I would start with a wage claim filing with the Dept. of Industrial Relations.
