Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I have been working as a Tour Guide for the last 11 months for a small mom and pop company that have no concept of professionalism no HR and awful working conditions.

I had been laid off and was a bit desperate for employment despite some warning signs and bad behavior I took the job. It was also able to show off the beautiful city of my birth San Francisco and the tourists saying what a great time they had and that I made there trip was very rewarding.

They promised breaks twice a loop or every 2 hour tour. They promised relief guides when the season got going. They also said they were getting uniforms and gear to protect us from the weather. None of this happened.

There was a great deal of verbal bullying from other drivers and guides who appeared to be threaten by my presence. There was a great deal of innuendo from management that I could be fired at any time and I should extremely grateful I have a job. There was some mild sexual innuendo from some of the drivers as well as accusations that I was stealing tips from the drivers. All the drivers are recovering drug addicts with very little education and no concept of professionalism.

A new vice president/general manager was brought in at the same time I was to improve the whole operation and better conditions. I meet with this man 4 times in formal sit downs, many informal conversations and sent numerous e-mails to him as he said he wanted my input to make the company better. He also said he wanted to back me on developing my own Movie and TV location tour. I very naively believed this was genuine, but I was dismissed and ignored and shined on by not just the new manager but the other office staff as well. As it got worse and my schedule was changed with less than 20 hours notice on a regular basis; I looked for new work. The other day the owners wife screamed at me and my driver on the street corner in front of the office in front of customers and said that we needed to do what she said right now or we would be fired. Beyond the fact this was embarrassing, the wife make very little sense and was a bit scary.

That was the straw. I now have a new job that starts Monday. I have not formally quit yet.

I have taken notes this whole time of the problems and kept all the e-mails, but when it comes right down to the bare bones I have very little proof of all the bad treatment as most of it was verbal.

Do I have any grounds for a law suit or some kind of recourse for my bad treatment?

No. Even if you had video tape and a signed confession of everything you say, none of it is against the law. There are no laws against bad management or rude and inappropriate conduct in the work place unless it violates occupational safety and health laws, wage and hour laws, or anti-discrimination laws. You have not described any violation of any of those, and you have not identified any monetary damages. You have no case.
