Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Workplace Loss and Prevention Harassment

I was called in to the security office and was asked if I have ever given anybody anything that belonged to the Company. I said NO, I would never take anything and give it to someone else. They asked several Q's and everytime I answered he made me write it down. He then had me sign it. The person He thinks I gave something to was then brought in and asked Q's and she said that I never gave her anything from the Company and that she thought I was a very Honest person. That was 5 days ago and she said he wanted to talk to her again to see if she had a change of heart and he said she might get barred from working at anyother place if she didn't come clean. I know he will want to talk to me again but I have nothing else to say from the original statement. What can I do?

Re: Workplace Loss and Prevention Harassment

Is there an employee manual which sets forth the terms & conditions of your employment with the company? If so, very carefully read & understand your company's policy & procedure re: the discipline of its employees. Assuming it's the standard type of employee manual, the manner & method of what & how the company is dealing with this issue should be spelled out for you. You need to find out if the company is following its own written policy & procedure in this case as set forth in its employee manual.

This is your starting point...A more definitive or detailed answer cannot be given until you know the answer to these questions.
