Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Wrongful Termination; Slander;Privacy Laws; Employer Retaliation; Etc.
While off with a work-related back injury from a big utility co. my boss had me fill out ''leave of absence'' papers, said that if they weren't returned by a certain date I would be fired. I sent the paperwork back to him certified mail & had a receipt days later that showed two signatures with a date next to one of them. It had the same date stamped on the receipt by the post office which delivered the letter. The dates that were on the receipt were marked two days before the deadline! I was shocked to receive a letter a month and a half later from my boss saying I was being fired for not getting the letter back in time. I filed a greivence with my union and they had a meeting setup. The morning of the meeting, I was crushed to hear from co-workers my boss had been saying to people in the office I was being fired for forging signatures on the cert. letter. All had been told to my co-workers before I had heard about it. Not only was I being wrong. terminated, I was now being falsly accussed of forgery and deception. I've had many of my rights violated by this and other actions & have alot more to tell, but I'm out of space. Do I have a case?

It sounds like you may have a very good case -- both for defamation of character, and for the termination in retaliation for your filing a workers compensation case, or for being injured. You should have vigorous representation in the grievance process.
