Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

30 day notice to vacate antique space

I have been renting a room at an antique store for 6 yeas. The store was sold to new owners in Aug of 07.Now, four months into the new ownership I was given a 30 day notice to vacate my room, the owner saying it just wasn't working out My room is going to be rented out to his friend. I haven't been able to find a place to put all my furniture in such a short notice. I have packed up all my small items and removed them. If I don't have all my items out by my move out date are these items leagally his?

I would make a video inventory of all of the items. Under normal circumstances, he would have to go through the legal process of evicting you which could take a few weeks more. However, in your unusual circumstances, I would fear that my expensive antiques would "disappear." You should use your best efforts to rent and utilize a secure storage facility, if only for a short time.

He is not entitled to keep your property.

Good luck!
