Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

30-day notice w/o lease agreement

I'm renting a room in a house about 1 year. There's no lease agreement or any kind of agreement. Last week I told them I was moving out on May 10, and was told that I can't because the law requires 30-day notice. Is this true? I've been paying cash to them since they asked me to do that. I tried to accommodate their request. Why can't they do the same to me?

Re: 30-day notice w/o lease agreement

You have a lease (oral) which is month to month.

Thirty days notice is required by both sides.
