Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
I have 8 months to go on my apt lease, but my elderly parents need us (husband too) now to move in with them too take of them, the manager of apts said thats too bad you still have to pay out your lease untill she re-rents it. Is this really true?

It is most likely true. I truly empathize with your situation, but look at it from the landlord's perspective - why should your parents health give you the right to cancel a lease? The two have nothing to do with each other, and so the apartment is almost certainly right that you cannot break the lease over your parents' health. I would suggest cooperating with the landlord in trying to find a new tenant, continue living there or at least paying rent until they do, and then request that you get a document signed by the landlord indicating that the remainder of the lease has been terminated by mutual agreement of the parties. Be sure to get that waiver or you could still get sued.
