Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
In 2009 I stayed in an apartment. I was ready to move before my lease was up. My mother offered to move in and take care of the rent so that I could move out. I called the property management group and they pretty much told me that was fine as long as they received the rent and that ultimately I was still responsible. I left my cellphone number as the contact number. Anyhow my mother went eight months without paying rent and I was never notified. She was evicted. She even went to a court hearing and pretended to be me. I understand that it was my fault for letting her live there. But I dont understand how things went as far as they did without me being notified. Is there anything I can do to salvage my credit.
