Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

2 weeks ago today, I slipped on stairs while visiting my daughter in Redondo Beach Ca. The were stairs leading to the laundry room, these stairs are painted with what seems like paint you would use to paint kitchen. Hoping it was only a sprain, it Swelled immediately, and was very painful we did cold compress and kept my leg/foot elevated. Next morning went to Kaiser emergency near Redondo Beach. Ok, I have a fracture of my left ankle, & left big toe. I was put in a splint. Had to end for other daughter to come and drive me & my car back home. I have since gone to Kaiser here Santa Clara, Ca. More xrays, and now 4 weeks in a cast. Then a walking boot, will be PT,. I have had to rent a scooter, and borrow a walker with big wheels, I am Not supposed to put any weight on the left foot. I live alone, besides the pain and emotional discomfort I am feeling from all this, it is costing me money.
My questions is this, can I get any kind of compensation from the apt owners for this accident. We did tell the manager, she did not even come check me out? Ok, so this is my situation. What should I do now?
