Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

My 80 year old grandma let a lady stay with her in my grandmas house in hopes of a friendship and care. Ever since the lady moved in she hasn't been very helpful and now is sick and can barely take care of herself. She doesn't pay rent or any other bills. My grandmother has bought her a car, given her money for food and for other personal items. There is no written agreement between the lady and my grandma. We recently wrote out a 45 day notice for her to move out and she says she is going to call the cops and sue. Does the lady have any ground to stand on and what might happen in a case like this?

The lady has no legal or factual grounds to sue your grandmother for her kindness. I suggest that your grandmother immediately consult with a landlord tenant attorney to assist her in getting the person staying with her evicted.
