Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

alndlord refuses to give me a copy of my document

My landlord refuses to give me a copy of my financial certificate which I signed. This paper contains all my finacial information. What can I do to make the landlord give me a copy. Is there a freedom of info law for landlords too.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no freedom of information law covering landlords. If he misuses your credit report, you would then have a lawsuit. You have the right to a free credit report once a year from each of the three credit reporting agencies. If you want your credit report, go to the credit reporting bureaus. I may be wrong, because this is not my field of expertise in law, so if this really bothers you, you might seek out help from a local attorney who specializes in financial situations, especially "creditor's rights".

Under what terms did you give it to him and why does he not want to give you a copy back? If he gives you a copy he will be keeping a copy, so I do not understand what is happening. Is there more to your story? Freedom of Information Act refers to getting governmental entities to release documents that should be public. Ask him nicely for a copy and tell him that you do not want to go to the trouble of having to look up the information again and type it up [I assume you did not use a computer and save the document].
