Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

My apartment building caught fire on frieday. Our apartment suffered minor water damage and no personal belongings damage. The fire was started due to faulty wiring in of the units. The whole building is evacuated and our whole floor is goin to need to be remodeled. We now don't hav e a place to live and the red cross payed for a hotel for the first two nights but now we don't have any where to stay. Is the apartment building liable for our hotel costs while they try and relocate us and figure out how long we will be out of our apartment?

Under the limited facts you provided, they are probably liable for those expenses. Have you discussed the situation with the building owner or manager? Start there. If they refuse, demand that they provide you with the name and phone number of their insurance carrier, and file a claim. Good luck - that's really a bummer.
