Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Apartment complex prevents tenets from obtaining outside services

My wife and I recently moved into an

apartment complex and discovered

that our decisions on cable services

were limited.

Instead of getting a package deal

that would save us money from

another provider, our complex only

provided a service by Adelphia, which

prevented us from obtaining a

different cable service. After calling

other compaines in the area it seems

this complex has prevented outside

services from being obtainable by

tenants.

I'm just curious if this is a legal

practice. We were never told of this

verbaly, nor is it in our contract.

Re: Apartment complex prevents tenets from obtaining outside services

It is legal.

In many areas with competing cable companies. the cable companies divided the territory geographically. Also, if you are in a condominium, their rules and regulations permit them to deal with one certain cable company.

The government generally gives a cable company lots of extra perks.
