Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

The apartment manager gave my credit report to one of there tenants

I recently applied to a property management company to rent an apartment. I gave consent for them to run my credit report. Well my credit was bad, so I understand why they declined my application. The problem is that the apartment manager had given a copy of my credit report to one of the tenants. I am very upset, but I do not know what to do about it. Could someone please help?

Probably nothing can be done. The manager was wrong, and it could be covered by defamation of character, also known as "slander". However, most of these cases require proving you were damaged. Your embarassment alone is not enough. There are some exceptions. Furthermore, your credit report is available to any potential creditor in the general public, so it would be difficult to show you were "damaged" financially.
