Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
Apartment requirements
Is it a law for a person to present a physical social security card to an apartment manager when applying for an apartment to rent, when a passport and paystubs are present with the SSN on it?

Re: Apartment requirements
It is not a law, but is standard practice.
The main reason, according to some landlords I represent, is that you cannot collect on judgments on "down the road" if tenant defaults.

Re: Apartment requirements
Like Mr. Bennett stated this is more or less a practice to ensure that if a eviction is necessary there will not be any issues.
