Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
Back in August, my landlord got upset at me when I asked for a plumber and told me I could just leave. He offered to refund 2 weeks rent if I would move out immediately (said a 30 days notice would not be necessary). It takes time to find a place and I've finally found one (it's September). When I asked if I could move out in 2 weeks without paying 2 weeks of rent, he says the offer is "expired". Is this legal or is he just trying to trick me? Does he legally have to stay true to his word?

It sounds like everything he is doing is illegal, starting with telling you to move out rather than fix the plumbing and then offering you a buy out to leave.
