Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
I have ben living in a large luxury apartment complex for the last five years and just signed a new twelve month lease. They require each tenant to carry a $100,000 Renters liability insurance policy. They notified me that there is a new requirement that the renters policy has to list the apartment complex as additionally insured or list it as a third party interest. Can this a legal requirement and is it detrimental to me as a tenant?

The only detriment would be that you would have to pay the insurance premium. It's beneficial since, if there's a fire or some other calamity, you're protecting the landlord's property and your personal property, as well. Many rental agreements contain a similar provision, but it's often ignored.
