Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
Breaking Lease
I need to break a lease. I was never given a copy. My room mates are charging me $100 extra on my rent.
They do drugs. I want out of the place. As well as the hostile abusive treatment I receive verbally from them.
I do have letters, text messages and phone recordings from them. How can I break my lease? my landlord is upset with me after the two room mates had a lengthy talk with them making me look like the bad guy.

Re: Breaking Lease
You can break the lease by just walking out, but then you'll have potential lawsuit, problems with credit, and years before you can buy anything on credit without cosigners, as well as probable added court costs, attorney fees, and interest.
Never having a copy is immaterial, except you should be able to get one. Ask the landlord for a copy ASAP.
Fax me the lease, or scan it to me, and we'll get further into solving your problems.
If you want to do something immediately, you can try to negotiate with landlord, but it sounds like you will need the help of an attorney, if only to write a letter to landlord and the roommates.
E-mail, call, or fax my office, and I'll try to help you more.
