Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

In California, when the plaintiff has filed an amended complaint, what happens to the allegations in the original complaint? Do they "go away" or are they added to the allegations of the amended complaint?

Generally they just go away. The only exception is that if the complaint contained allegations that provided a defense to the defendant, the defendant can still rely on those allegations as proof of the defense.
