Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
I am a caregiver for an 84yr old women who recently went blind. Since this happened her son has installed numerous cameras both inside and outside the house. I live at the residence as well as 2 other individuals. Where is it ok and legal for him to install these cameras?
We have 5 cameras within the house, 1 inside the garage and 6 cameras that we know of outside. We feel this is an invasion of privacy and somewhat an overkill.
Can you please offer us some advise as to the legality of cameras.
Thank you,
Tammy

Outside cameras are entirely legal. You have no right of privacy in what you do outside. As long as you are notified, a camera in the garage is also perfectly legal. In fact, with notice, it would be legal to place cameras in any common areas of the house as well. Generally only private rooms and bathrooms would be off-limits.
