Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

compensation

We recently moved into an appartment which apparantly was clean and ready to move in, by the next day all my family including me were bitten by fleas, my 5 year old son developed some sort of allergic reaction which caused a very serious infection, and we had to make various trips to the doctors, manager was told about the problem and send somebody to clean the carpets, after they were cleaned the problem was not gone and my son's infection was getting worse due to the bites, my manager refuses to change the carpet and is not to convinced of cleaning it a second time, due to my frustration and advice from everyone I went to court and filed a complaint, in the paperwork I have to fill out to present to the court, I'm being asked what do I think my compensation should be (I guess an amount) I never been into any kind of litigation and have no idea what to respond, this whole issue has been going on for 3 weeks and had no choice but to go to court, what is the minimun/maximun I can ask for in a case like this? Please help.

Re: compensation

I am assuming you went to Small Claims court.

The maximum is $7,500. Ask for it.

The Legal Aid of Riverside county has an excellent brochure. Read this for more help.http://www.inlandlegal.org/publications/landlord_tenant.pdf

Good luck!
