Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
Co-tenant's threats- before this escalates....
A tenant at our apartment complex and my girlfriend got into a verbal altercation due to the fact that my girlfriend removed this persons laundry from the dryer after it had been sitting in there for over an hour (after being done of course). My girlfriend had to explain the obvious (to anyone with a bit of common sense) that other people need to use these machines as well and it is just plain rude and inconsiderate. The tenants final words were ''this better not happen again or we're gonna have a problem...''. Brought this to the attention of the property management- dont think police can do anything at this point if the threat wasnt specific. Is there anything else that my girlfriend and I should do in the meantime and when (if at all) does this become something where the management company steps in? Working under the assumption that that there will be further problems with this person. Last thing either one of us need is to have to worry about about a less-than-decent person doing something with hostile intent.

It's perfectly legitimate to remove someone's clothes from a laundry unit if they've been sitting there unattended for awhile and you need to use the machine. The person who owns the clothes should expect this and it is not an intrusion, since they are using a common facility.
If you get threats again from this idiot, report them to the manager and if the threats are violent, call the police or go to the precinct and make out a report. Don't talk back to the person. Actions speak louder than words. Good luck.
