Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

evict from property if he built it

We allowed a relative to build on our property a building for storage. We wrote an informal contract that the improvement was not his, Only if we sold the property could he get money for improvements made to the property. He is running businesses without a license and put electrical and plumbing in without permits. We want him out but our agreement in writing states in one sentence he could use the building if he paid the taxes on the property. Can we evict him.

Re: evict from property if he built it

Despite your contract, you can evict him (assuming the facts you have given me). He may be able to collect damages from you for improvements, but you didn't ask that question. Eviction proceedings can cost upwards of $600. It might be better to have a lawyer write a strong letter to him.
