Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

I want to evict my tenants, I have served them with a 3 day notice to pay or quit. They failed to follow payment instructions so now do I serve them with a 30 day notice to pay or quit or serve them with the unlawful detainer. And Can I serve them either of these or can a friend or do I have to hire a service to serve them.

Skip the 30-day notice. It doesn't apply if you gave a valid 3-day for non-payment of rent. Go straight to filing the UD. Any person over 18 who is not a party to the litigation and holds no legal interest in its outcome can serve the papers.
