Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

I was evicted

I had signed a lease with a friend and put down a $3000.00 deposit on an apartment. The person i signed the lease with allowed 2 people to stay at our house for a week and then they refused to leave, they took over our house, i know this sounds crazy but it is very true. We called the police over 10 times and they told us there was nothing we could do to make them leave. So eventually the manager gave us a pay or quit and we left within 3 days. those other people stayed in our house for two months after we left. Now i have a pending eviction on my record, what can i do? please help me

Re: I was evicted

Your subject says "I was evicted". You last line says "pending". Which is it?

If you have already been evicted, you will find renting is almost impossible without a cosigner. You are entitled to write an explanation of up to 100 words at each of the three credit reporting agencies explaining your side.

If the eviction is pending, and not yet final, I would think strongly about negotiating with the landlord to keep your name off the eviction. The problem here is that the invaders probably have no money, and no credit, and the landlord wants to collect from you and your friend.

Unfortunately, here is a situation where you and the landlord are both innocent. Who should take the financial loss? I don't think you really want to hear the answer.

As the late basketball coach, Al McGuire, was frequently quoted, "If life were fair, there wouldn't be wheelchairs".

Sorry I can't wave a magic wand, and help you.
