Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
Still an Eviction on Credit Report?
I am going into my eviction hearing Fri. and was wondering - I am going to try to ask the judge for a week to get moved into a new place that I have secured. If he agrees, and I move when I say I am, will that still end up as an eviction on my credit report?

Yes! It will remain for 7 years.

If they don't record a judgment, then it won't end up on your report. You need to get out before the hearing. You need to do everything possible to give the place back to the landlord ASAP, and you should pay him whatever money you owe him and apologize for living there without paying rent. If he obtains a judgment and records it, it will stay on your record for 7 years and it hurts. You won't be able to move for 7 years, because no one will rent to you. And it will affect your credit.
