An already existing converted garage into a living space.

my friend bought a property in East Los Angeles CA. the garage was converted to a living space. she rented it to a friend. but she wants to know how can she have it legalized and will they fined her for renting it. will she have to tear it down and start it from scratch.. she needs advice.. can u help .. i believe she knew about this converted space when she bought the property..can the person she rented too sue her for renting it since its not legalized?

Yes, one can be fined if there is no adequate permit.

Contact local building and housing inspectors. They'll fill in what is necessary to legalize this.
