My father owns the house. My niece is staying there and NOT paying any rent or help with any utilities. Her mail does come to that address He has asked her to find a new place to live and nothing happens. What is the legal way to have her removed. please advise. They live in Sacramento, California and I need to know what my action plan is to take care of this situation. I live out of state.
Thank you for your time, Lenora

If the owner of property lets someone occupy that property indefinitely, without charging periodic rent, then the occupier is what is known as a tenant at will. A tenancy at will is terminated by giving proper written thirty (30) day notice, pursuant to California Civil Code section 789.
