Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
Filed a small claims action against my former landlord. I paid a service to serve him but they have not been able to contact him at the mailing address I sent my rent checks to. With the court date approaching what do I do next?

The service you hired should have been able to tell you what to do. Go down to the assessor's office and see where the tax bills are sent, see if the post office has a change of address, goggel the landlord's name, consider paying for an on line ID search, look up court records to see if he is a party to other suits, etc. If you have not served the landlord within a few days of trial contact the court to continue the matter.
