Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
I've been forced to vacate my rental unit for having a dog that was not on the lease. Landlord accepted rent for 1 full year with full knowledge that the dog lived on the premise before telling me to get rid of the dog or vacate, is this legal?

If the lease says no pets, and you brought in a pet, then you were in violation of the lease. If your landlord knew about the dog for a year and did nothing, that does not necessarily mean he can't decide to enforce the provision now, but can be used as a defense in an eviction case. Not an absolute defense, but a defense.
If your lease is up, the landlord does not have to renew. So the dog issue may just be an easy excuse.
