Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

forclosure on my rentsl

I live in a rental house that I moved into 45 days ago. I have given a 2000 deposit and have documentation (copies of cashiers checks of 1800 for rent for march and April. I received a notice on my door 4-17-08 that this house will sell at a public auction on 5-5-08? The landlord is saying everything is fine. I dont belive him. Do I pay rent May 1? Do I go to the court house to see who buys the property. Do I call the trustee of the deed? How long do I have to stay in the house and will I get my deposit back. Should I just not pay may 1 and stay until june 1. Do I have thirty days? Can they come and put my stuff on the streets can they put a lock on the door HELP. What do I do?

Re: forclosure on my rentsl

Pay rent on Mat 1.

You have a minimum of 30 days notice required by a new owner. Also, the new owner will be responsible for your deposit.

DON't PANIC! They can't lock you out, and put your stuff on the street, at least, not at this point.

You, of course, can go to the auction, but you are not required to go.
