Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

I friend of mine lives in a motel and I moved in temporarily with him. He already pays 700 a month and the owner wanted to charge me 400 for a total of 1100 for a one room place. I have lived there for 2 months and receive mail there etc... Can he kick me out without notice. He tried once. gave me an hour but I didnt budge and now he is is trying to kick out my friend who has been there for 2 years. How long do we have before he can legally kick us out?

You need to supply us with more information. It sounds as though you have paid no rent so you are not a tenant but rather a guest of your friend, who probably is not allowed to have resident guests]. What are you claiming as your right to live there? Is your friend just renting monthly, what does his rental contract say, what has the landlord told him about your staying there and his also remaining, etc. My guess is that your friend is in breach of his contractual agreement with the motel owner and can be given a three day notice to leave.
