Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
I have friends who rent. They were just given 2 weeks notice to move out due to the sale of the rental home. Is the time frame correct? I thought here in CA it was 30 days!

That notice is improper. It could be as much as 60 days if they've been at that location for more than 1 year.

Depends on the circumstances. If it is month to month then 30 days if they have lived there less than a year, or 60 days if more than a year. If they have a written lease then it would be until the end of its term. If there is rent control that requires just cause then they can't evict unless the new owner is moving in. Two weeks is simply not enough time.
Hope that helps and good luck.
