Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Furniture requirements

Does my landlord have the right to dictate what type of furniture I may or may not have? This is not a waterbed case; the landlord says I cannot have a combination armoire/desk/bookshelf/dresser that I constructed myself. Their only argument is that it takes up too much space, and ruins the ''dynamic'' of the apt which sounds absurd to me. I do not believe they have the right to make me take it down...there is nothing blocking any exits or fire sprinklers...I just think that they are weird people. I am pretty sure they do not have any legal grounds, but I would like to know for sure. Thank You

Re: Furniture requirements

No, you should be able to furnish your apartment the way you like, as long as it doesn't violate the lease, and is not too heavy to cause the floor to collapse. Yes, they are weird!
