Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

I gave my landlord 30 days notice on Nov 6, in California. I paid the full months rent for November and vacated the property on Nov 20th. I want to be reimbursed for 10 days of rent. Does the landlord owe this by law or is it his discretion?

Your 30 day notice, on November 6th, told the landlord that you were vacating by December 6th. Thus, even though you left early, your rent continued, until December 6th. The landlord does not owe you a refund. I suggest that you hold your breath and hope that the landlord does not demand rent for the first six days of December.

This issue will most likely arise, if you have a dispute about the return of your security deposit, but that is the subject of a different post.

Happy Holidays.
