Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
My grandmother owns a building, there was a man there who was living there free of rent and never had to pay for anything he was under no contract or nothing, my grandma was paying him to help her around the building, but never kept a record of it because she never thought he would try and pull a slick one of her, well he had his gf staying for a few days with him, and him and his GF got in a huge fight, and the gf decided she was going to bring over some relatives to try and beat him up, so my grandmother did not like the situation and told him he needed to find another place to go because its not healthy for the building, now he is threatening her, a few neighbors have seen him in the area today, a key to the company truck is missing, and he was the only one who had access to it, he also took about 1500 dollars worth of tools and sold an arcade that was in the building that he said he had put away and now that we actually are looking thru everything he had access too, its ALL GONE what would be the best thing to do? we know he is living on the streets he told my grandmother he is going to sue her is this possible if they never had a contact or anything?
what would be the best thing to do?

If he's gone and he's living on the street and has no money, just let it go. It won't be worth your time and money to sue someone who has no assets. Just be glad you're rid of him. If he sues (not likely) you will have to explain the situation to a judge, but it doesn't appear he has any grounds to sue if he voluntarily left.
