Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Grounds for lease termination?

I moved into an apartment with one roommate six months ago. My name and her name are on the lease. Her boyfriend immediately started staying with us, and just recently moved his belongings into the apartment. Also, she has a dog and a cat. So the dog, cat and boyfriend are not on the lease. The leasing manager says that the roommates portion of the lease is void, but mine is not, (she can evict the roommate but not me). What are my options? How negatively will it affect me if i break the lease?

Re: Grounds for lease termination?

You don't really make sense with your question. Do you want to move? Do you want roommate to move? Would you like to get rid of the dog, cat, and boyfriend, but not her?

There are lots of options, depending on what you want to accomplish.

You should not break the lease. It will have a strong negative affect on your credit. You will not be able to rent without a cosigner, for at least 7 years. Also, it will be difficult to buy a car, buy a house, etc.
